Maha set for 90 lakh tonne sugar output this season

Sugar mills in Maharashtra have crushed around 600 lakh tonne of cane to produce 68 lakh tonne of sugar so far this season. The recovery rate of 11.3% is higher by 0.3% of the previous corresponding figures of the previous season, Ajit Chougule, acting MD, Maharashtra State Cooperative Sugar Factories Federation (MSCSFF) said. ISMA has maintained that the sugar production of the country will be 260 lakh tonne in the current season 2011-12.

At least four sugar mills in the state have completed crushing operations and have shut down operations for the season, he said. This season, a total of 165 sugar factories participated in the crushing. Another 180 tons of cane remain to be crushed to produce a total of 90 lakh tons of sugar this season, he added. Data available says 186.5 lakh tonne of sugar has been produced till February 29.
