Feb 21: Global sugar supplies will exceed demand by 5.17 million tonnes in the season started in October, up from the previous forecast of 4.46 million tonnes, according to the International Sugar Organisation. That would be a second year of surplus, with production being 939,000 tonnes higher than consumption in the 2010-11 season, the London based ISO said in a quarterly report. World production will climb to a record 173 million tonnes (mt), up from 165 mt last season, it estimated. Consumption will grow by 2.3 per cent to 167.83 mt.
