LUCKNOW: In a boost the sugar industry in the state, the Yogi Adityanath government is planning to revive the Pipraich and Munderva sugar mills located in Goarkhpur and Basti, respectively. A team of officials from the sugar development department would inspect the site of the two mills on May 5 and 6.

Cane commissioner Vipin Dwivedi said that the department would explore the possibility of setting up a power plant and a distillery unit in the two mills which have remained closed for years. Both the mills were set up by the UP sugar corporation, which currently owns just one mill in Muzaffarnagar.

The department estimates that the Pipraich and Munderva mills could have a cane crushing capacity of 3500 and 5000 tonnes per day. Dwivedi said that help of other experts from the cane sector would also be taken to revive the two mills.
