The Empowered Group of Ministers (EGoM), headed by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, on Tuesday decided to allow export of 10 lakh tonnes of sugar under open general license. “The EGoM has decided to allow one million tonnes of sugar export under OGL,” Food Minister K V Thomas told reporters after a meeting on Tuesday.

The meeting also decided to lift the stockholding limit on sugar. In addition, it was decided that the Food Ministry should allow imposition of stockholding limit on paddy and rice beyond the current period till November 30 in states demanding so while letting the limit lapse in states not seeking retention of stockholding limits.
