Sugar climbs, cocoa retreats

Nov 21: Sugar climbed in London, after falling for three consecutive sessions, on speculation lower prices will spur demand. Cocoa slid as commodities retreated. White, or refined, sugar for March delivery advanced 1.2 per cent to $ 630.30 a tonne by 9:34 a.m. on NYSE Liffe in London. Raw sugar for March delivery rose 1.3 per cent to 24.27 cents a pound on ICE Futures US in New York. Crystal sugar accounts for 68 per cent of the sweetener sold within Brazil. Robusta coffee for January delivery was unchanged at $1,882 a tonne in London. Arabica coffee for March delivery was down 0.2 per cent to $2.3845 a pound in New York. Cocoa for December delivery slid 0.3 per cent to L1,533 (2,407) a tonne on NYSE Liffe. Cocoa for March delivery retreated 1% to $2,433 a tonne on ICE. - Bloomberg
