Karnal, December 8
With no increase in the state advisory prices (SAP) of sugarcane since 2014, state farmers are moving to Uttar Pradesh to sell their produce at higher price.
Farmers said delay in the starting of the crushing season in sugar mills coupled with no announcement of SAP had forced them to sell their produce in the neighbouring state.
“Crushing in the Karnal mills commenced 15 days late, so I went to UP to sell my produce,” said Rampal, a farmer. Mahipal Singh, a progressive farmer, said the state government had fixed Rs 310 per quintal for the early, Rs 305 for the mid and Rs 300 for the late and general varieties of sugarcane, but in UP, the farmers are getting Rs 315 for early variety.
“The state government has not cleared its stand over the payment. In UP, we are being paid in cash,” Mahabir Singh, another farmer.
