The agreement aims to tap into the underutilized potential of sewage treatment plants for Bio-CNG production, a move in line with India’s goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and curb methane pollution. WABAG, known for its water technology solutions, joins hands with PEAK, an Alternative Investment Fund focusing on climate-related sectors. Shailesh Kumar, CEO-India Cluster, WABAG, mentioned the company’s commitment to sustainable energy, pointing to its existing generation of over 40 MWh of green energy across various installations. “This collaboration marks a significant step in our journey towards producing cleaner fuel and supporting India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat vision,” Kumar said. Samir Shah, Managing Partner, Peak Sustainability Ventures, highlighted the partnership’s objective to utilize methane from sewage treatment plants more effectively. “We aim to attract institutional capital for this initiative and collaborate with WABAG in leveraging global technologies to enhance efficiency and project outcomes,” said Shah. This development is set to positively impact local economies and create job opportunities, merging waste management with renewable energy solutions. The project supports the G20’s Global Biofuel Alliance initiative and aims to bolster India’s energy security.
