Belagavi, Karnataka: Former minister Srimant Patil launched a scathing attack on the Congress government in Karnataka, accusing it of exploiting sugarcane farmers’ plight for political gain. Speaking to the media in Kempawada village, in Belagavi district, Patil expressed disappointment over the government’s failure to address the issue of cheating in sugarcane weight by certain sugar mills, reported The Hans India.

Patil highlighted repeated complaints from farmers and documented evidence of weight manipulation, yet the government has failed to take decisive steps. “Instead of addressing their concerns, they’re shamelessly milking this issue for political mileage,” he charged.

Despite bringing the matter to the attention of relevant authorities, Patil claims no concrete action has been taken. He pointed to a recent promise by Sugar Minister Sivananda Patil to install digital weighing machines at sugar mills, a promise unfulfilled for seven months.

Challenging the government’s commitment, Patil offered his sugar factory as a test case. “Install a digital weighing machine here first,” he dared, “then make promises to farmers.”
