Punjab sugar mills to produce 17.50 lakh qtls of sugar this season: Sandhu

25 November 2015, Jalandhar:  The Punjab government today announced the schedule for crushing during current season (2015-16) besides allowing the sugar mills to export the molasses to other states, which would provide a big push to the mills to get rid of the financial crunch. S K Sandhu, principal secretary to the Punjab Chief Minister and also the principal secretary, department of Punjab Cooperative said this while addressing a meeting of general managers of sugar mills here today. Ms kamalpreet Kaur Brar, managing director, SUGARFED was also present in the meeting.

He said that the target was fixed to crush the 192 Lakh Quintal sugarcane to produce nearly 17.50 Lakh quintal sugar. He informed that the crushing season would be started from the Nawashahar Sugar mill from November 26, followed by Budhewal mill on November 27, Morinda mill on December first, Fazilka on December 2, Gurdaspur , Nakodar and Batala from December 4, Ajnala on December 5 and Bhogpur sugar mill from December 8.

He also directed the Managers to reach out to the frmers to ensure that they should only cut the crop after the issuances of slips by the mills to eliminate the waiting period for farmers in mills.
