At last the government is seriously focusing on bio fuels to propel the energy security campaign in the country. In fact the Petroleum and Natural gas ministry (MoPNG) is now preparing a thorough road map for the implementation of a Bio fuel program that will be implemented across the country so that consumption of Bio fuel would be increased and dependency on the imported crude oil will be curtailed. This will certainly help the Indian Sugar industry that is already marred by various wrong reasons.
As per the plan a working group has already been set up under the leadership of YB Ramakrishna, former Chairman of the Karnataka State Bio Fuel Development Board that will coordinate among different stakeholders and promote synergy between various ministries and states. Just to promote this cause MoPNG today organized a national seminar on Bio fuel program where the Petroleum and Natural Gas minister Dharmendra Pradhan along with other top officials of ministry took part. In the seminar the main focus was on Bio Diesel and Bio Ethanol and the problems and new technology available for the program.
Ministry officials have seriously deliberated upon the problems that are there in the implementation of the blending program across the country. More importantly, the sugar industry is long demanding the thorough implementation of ethanol blending across the country but it is marred by various issues. Top industry officials say that the government is keen to increase the blending and in the next 1-2 years total focus would be on the implementation of this program. The Government will soon accelerate the mammoth blending program across the country and for this a road map is being prepared.
The Ministry is also focusing on new modern Technologies that will look at various resources such as agriculture residues, municipal solid waste and plastic waste technologies for converting them to into fuels which can replace fossil fuels. Padma Vibhushan Dr. R A Mashelkar Chancellor, AcSIR, NCL, Pune also graced the seminar.
