LUCKNOW: Chief minister Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday shot off a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, requesting him to urgently get expedited the clearance of Public Investment Board and the Cabinet to the Lucknow Metro Project. The CM sent the letter enumerating a number of instances to show how the Centre was discriminating against the state by curtailing funds for development and welfare schemes and delaying the projects. Highly placed sources in the office of the chief minister revealed that the chief minister was particularly upset over the 'drama' of the MPs who were not able to get developmental projects approved by their own government at Centre and blaming the state government. Apart from raising the issue of the Cabinet clearance to Lucknow Metro, the CM also mentioned how the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) was neglecting the maintenance of the national and state highways despite repeated reminders. The chief minister during his meeting with the prime minister and even in his earlier letters have been raising the issue of Lucknow Metro, but the mandatory approval has not come so far. Among other issues, he has also raised the issue of the Central share in ensuring adequate availability of energy to the state, relief to the sinking sugar industry in the state and the neglect of farmers who lost their crops in the unexpected rains and hailstorm in March and delay in granting SC status to 17 most backward. He also says that funds under the prime minister rural roads programme needed immediate attention. The chief minister has repeatedly raised the issue of state's neglect through official correspondence, personal interactions with the Central ministers and from the public platform. The chief minister had written a letter asking for Rs 7,000 crore package from the Centre for the recent farm crisis, but it was also paid no heed and the state government had to pay over Rs 5,000 crore from its own funds as compensation and assistance to the aggrieved farmers . WHAT CM RAISED WITH PM AGAINST TODAY --- no clearance of metro train project of Lucknow by Centre ---NHAI neglected national highways maintenance --Delay in central share of power to U.P. ---No special package for sinking sugar industry in U.P. - No SC status to 17 MBCs - NO package in recent farm crisis - Prime minister rural road programme facing fund crisis.
