BELAGAVI: Ahead of monsoon session beginning from Monday in Belagavi, the district administration has come into swift action against the sugar factories failed to pay fair remunerative price (FRP) fixed by the central government to the farmers supplied sugarcane. Administration seized sugar godowns of 14 sugar factories through local tahasildars on Thursday and Friday. Godowns of four sugar factories seized in Athani taluk. Besides, four were seized in Chikkodi, two in Gokak and each one at Raibag, Bailhongal, Ramdurg and Khanapur taluk were seized and sugar was taken to the custody. Godowns of other two factories had seized last week. Names of sugar factories and quantity of seized sugar is as following: Doodhaganga Sugars, Examba- (1,78,000 quintals), Om Sugars , Jainapur- (43,000 quintals), Krishna Sugars, Athani- (57,280 quintals), Ugar Sugars, Ugar Khurd- (1,75,160 quintal), Venkateshwara Sugars, Bedakihal- (2,92,370 quintals), Shivsagar Sugars, Ramdurg- (56,870 quintals), Renuka Sugars, Burlatti- (1,08,310 quintals), Renuka Sugars, Raibag- (4,03,670 quintals), Renuka Sugars, Kolavi (10,000 quintals), Somashekhar Sugars, Bailhongal- (2,11,000 quintals), Laila Sugars, Khanapur- (1,42,350 quintals), Athani Sugars, Kokatnur- (4,23,850 quintals), Halasiddanath Sugars, Nippani- (85,652 quintals) and Ghataprabha Sugars, Gokak (yet to calculate).
In concern to Ghataprabha Sugars, before Gokak tahasildar seizing it's godowns, already the central excise department has seized the factory. However, tahasildar also seized the factory godown on Friday. Speaking to the TOI, DC N Jayaram said shortly district administration will call e-tender to sell seized sugar and take steps of pay the dues of sugarcane farmers.
