Karnataka Minister for Cooperation H SMahadeva Prasad today said that despite strict direction, 63 SugarFactories owed Rs 3,818 Crore to the cane purchased in 2013-14.
Talking to newsmen here, he said notices would be served tothe factories which have failed to clear the dues.
"If the sugar factories fail to clear the dues to the farmers,the government will issue recovery notices and confiscate the sugar stock in the factories.
"The Karnataka Government is committed to see that thefarmers receive their share of the money for sugarcane supplied to mills," he said.
He said so far nearly 448 lakh metric tones of sugar canewas crushed and 49.
63 lakh metric tones of sugar producedthis year in the state.
So far, the sugar factories have paid Rs 7,536 crore.
The union government has fixed FRP in the range of Rs 2,200 to Rs 2900 per tonne depending on the yield and transportation cost,for the 2014-15 crushing season, he added He said due to fall in the prices of the sugar in the market some of the factories have decided not to pay the FRP to the farmers and have gone to court and brought the stay also.
Now the government was trying to vacate the stay and help the farmers for gettingtheir dues.
