The government will get a constitutional amendment on Goods and Services Tax (GST) cleared in the current budget session but the GST Bill will be taken up only in the monsoon session, sources said.
Key bills that the government is hoping to pass in the ongoing session are the Undisclosed Foreign Income and Assets (Imposition of Tax) Bill (or black money bill), the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Bill, 2013 and the land bill. Sources said the land bill, which continues to face resistance from the opposition, is likely to be taken up only after the other bills are cleared.
The Lok Sabha will begin a debate on demands for grants on Wednesday with that for the department of drinking water, which will be followed by the Fertiliser Ministry’s. The Lower House will discuss demands for grants for the home ministry too.
Sources said the key bills will be taken up only after the Finance Bill is cleared. “Most probably, the constitution amendment for GST and other bills will be taken up from May 4,” said a source. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley will meet state finance ministers Wednesday to discuss the roadmap for rolling out GST from April 2016. Later, the state ministers will discuss the new regime among themselves, sources said.
