The India Met Department (IMD) has said that conditions are favourable for the monsoon to enter the South Bay of Bengal, North Andaman Sea and the Andaman Islands in the next two days.

 

For the sixth day after onset on Thursday, seasonal rains have failed to make any progress in south-extreme Bay of Bengal though heavy rain is forecast over parts of the North-East on Friday.

 

Heavy falls seen

The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rain with extremely heavy falls over Assam, Meghalaya and heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. Under the influence of a western disturbance lying over Afghanistan, fairly widespread to widespread rain is forecast for the hills of North-West India for next two days while it will be isolated to scattered rain/thundershowers over adjoining plains.

 

Thunderstorms accompanied with gusty winds are likely over the hills and dust storms/thunderstorms accompanied with gusty winds over the adjoining plains during the same period.

 

These will continue to spare heat wave conditions for the region, and instead persist over Madhya Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Tamil Nadu.

 

Heat wave conditions may extend over over Vidarbha (severe heat wave )on Friday and later over Telangana, Rayalaseema, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Odisha during next four days.

 

Pre-monsoon weather

Meanwhile, full-blown pre-monsoon weather is spreading to more areas over the mainland as helpful cyclonic circulations and troughs take up positions over disparate locations.

 

Cyclonic circulations are present over the North Andaman Sea, the Arabian Sea and adjoining Lakshadweep, South-East Uttar Pradesh, and West Rajasthan.

 

According to the IMD, a fresh western disturbance is expected to approach the hills of North-West India by Sunday to extend the violent weather over the region.

 

Thunderstorms forecast

The western disturbance have to switch off and lift for the monsoon south-easterlies from the Bay to establish over the plains along the monsoon trough later in June/July.

 

In forecasts valid for Friday, the IMD said that thunderstorm and lightning accompanied with (i) gusty winds (50 km/hr) are likely over South Interior Karnataka; (ii) hailstorm and gusty winds (40 km/hr) over Uttarakhand; (iii) gusty winds (40 km/hr) over Kerala, North Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, hills of Bengal, Sikkim, Odisha, Jharkhand, and (iv) dust storm and gusty winds (40 km/hr) over Punjab, West Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi.
