Sugar Gains, Pulses Ease

The Agriwatch Agri Commodities Index dipped 0.02% to 109.34 during the week ended Feb 23, 2019 from 109.36 the previous week as gains in sugar offset declines in pulses and onion prices. The Maize Index declined 2.72%, ending a six-week gaining streak. This was only the second decline for maize in the past 14 weeks. The base for the Index and all sub-Indices is 2014 (= 100). Six of the nine commodity group sub-Indices and 20 of the 29 individual commodity sub-Indices fell during the week. The group sub-Index values and their weekly changes are: Cereals: 120.75 (-0.42%), Pulses: 119.05 (-3.04%), Potato & Onion: 42.71 (-5.12%), Edible Oils: 110.36 (-0.52%), Oilseeds: 104.94 (-0.33%), Spices: 104.25 (-0.47%), Sweeteners: 103.27 (+3.36%), Fibres: 111.88 (+0.28%) and Other Non-Food Articles: 84.82 (+1.19%).
