Sugar prices on the Vashi wholesale market ruled steady on routine volumes. Continuous selling by producers and slack retail demand amid ample stocks kept overall sentiment weak. Millers sold fair quality sugar at ₹10 lower while kept the rates for fine variety unchanged.
A Vashi-based wholesaler said that 115-120 truckloads amid low demand from retailers kept stockists away from making fresh bets. The volume remained need-base and thin. On the other hand, in the absence of upcountry buying and export demand, mills are forced to offload commodity in local markets resulting in ample supply. Arrivals at Vashi market were 58-59 truckloads ( of 100 bags each) and the local dispatches were 56-57 loads. On Saturday evening, 18-20 mills offered tenders and sold 40,000-45,000 bags at ₹2,920-3,000 (₹2,930-3,000) for S-grade and ₹3,030-3,140 (₹3,030-3,150) for M-grade.
Bombay Sugar Merchants Association’s spot rates: S-grade ₹3,096-3,205 (₹3,092-3,192) and M-grade was ₹3,212-3,350 (₹3,202-3,352). Naka delivery rates: S-grade ₹3,030-3,080 (₹3,030-3,100) and M-grade ₹3,140-3,240 (₹3,160-3,270).
