Lucknow: With the Lok Sabha elections round the corner, the Samajwadi Party government in Uttar Pradesh finds itself in a fix over the contentious issue of sugarcane dues with arrears rising to Rs 3,800 crore from Rs 2,250 crore in the last season. 

    The grim situation came to light after the high court on January 9 asked the Uttar Pradesh government to ensure payment to the farmers with interest in three weeks. The next hearing of the case is scheduled on January 30.
