LUCKNOW: The UP government has invited experts from Mauritius to train farmers in the state on how to increase sugarcane yield. Talking to a few media persons over a cup of tea on Sunday morning at his 5 Kalidas Marg official resident, the CM said that the UP government, in a bid to increase ties with such countries whose people have roots in India in general and UP in particular, would also come up with 'apravashi bhawan' in Varanasi and also construct a museum. The UP government will also develop Buddhist tourist centres and would come up with research centre on Buddhist literature in near future, the CM said.
He said that even though the overall population, around 51 per cent of the population in Mauritius is of Hindus, they are not very economically sound. They are a contended lot, the CM said and added that however, they have done great work in the field of sugarcane sowing. Since they have been able to get a better yield as compared to that in UP, he has invited the experts from Mauritius to visit India and give a presentation of the technique they have adopted. If good, the same could be adopted by the farmers in the state, the CM said. In same way, he has also held talks with the Mauritius government in ensuring exchange programmes of the nature that if any Indian businessman wants to set up his business in Mauritius he could do so.
The CM said that Mauritius has great potential of turning into world trade centre as it is strategically located and is the gateway to various European and African countries.
Also strategically, if Mauritius is able to develop with the support of India, the influence of China could be curtailed to a greater extent.
Coming back to cultural exchanges, the CM said that the tourism department has developed a website which could help the Indian origin of people living in Mauritus to find their roots in Uttar Pradesh.
Adding to it, since the people of Indian origin have stuck to the traditional Bhojpuri language, which was spoken in north India states about 150 years back, its development and exchanges on its basis could also be done. Keeping all this in mind, an Apravashi Bhawan would come up in Varanasi along with a small museum.
The CM also said that since the record of all the people who went to Mauritius in early 1800 as girmitiya labourers is safe in Mauritius and in Kolkata, he has directed the officials to contact people in Kolkata museum and find out Indian origin people from Uttar Pradesh.
