Chandigarh, October 25
Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar today announced a hike of Rs 10 per quintal, from Rs 320 to Rs 330, in the state advisory price (SAP) of sugarcane. This would benefit farmers to the tune of Rs 86 crore.
He said as the wheat sowing season has begun, electricity supply to the agriculture sector would be increased from eight hours to 10 hours per day up to November 15.
Khattar thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for hiking the wheat MSP by Rs 10 per quintal.
He announced upgrade of Ladwa tehsil to a subdivision. Khattar said the government has renamed Mustafabad village in Yamunanagar district as Saraswati Nagar, Ganda village in Fatehabad as Ajit Nagar, and Kinnar village in Hisar as Gaibipur after gram panchayats passed the resolution to this effect.
Similarly, Chamar Khera village in Hisar would be renamed Sunder Khera, Garhi Sampla in Rohtak as Ch. Chottu Ram Nagar, and Panjokhra as Panjokhra Sahib.
Meanwhile, Agriculture minister OP Dhankar said all cooperative sugar mills in the state would start crushing from November 1, 21 days in advance. The capacity of sugar mills in Karnal, Panipat and Sonepat would be raised to 3,500, 5,000 and 2,200 tonnes per day, respectively, from the existing 2,200, 1,800 and 1600 tonnes per day.
Dhankar was replying to a calling attention motion moved by opposition members on the price of sugarcane.
Later, INLD legislator Jaswinder Singh Sandhu objected to the comments of Health Minister Anil Vij when the party MLAs walked into the House with their mouths covered to lodge their protest over not being allowed to speak. He and other INLD legislators demanded an apology from the minister. Vij, however, said he had only asked a question and not made a statement.
