With rainfall set to be below normal this monsoon and Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Rajasthan already facing drought-like conditions, the EGoM headed by Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar will meet Tuesday to discuss measures to meet the challenge.
Pawar will hold separate meetings with the chief ministers of the four states to coordinate relief efforts. He will meet Maharashtra CM Prithviraj Chavan Wednesday, Karnataka CM Jagadish Shettar on Thursday, Gujarat CM Narendra Modi and Ashok Gehlot on Friday.
Pawar will be accompanied by the high-level inter-ministerial team of officials from the ministries of agriculture, water resources, drinking water and rural development at the meetings.
At tomorrow's meeting, the EGoM is slated to discuss measures related to agriculture, food price management, water resources management and drinking water supply. While the drinking water department is learnt to be pushing for more funds to meet requirements in Maharashtra, Karnataka and Rajasthan, Food Minister K V Thomas is planning to augment domestic pulses supply by increasing supply of subsidised pulses through PDS.
