July 19: The premium white sugar for October delivery commands over December futures rose by 34 per cent in the past month on concern supplies will be limited with the lack of rains in India, the second biggest producer of the sweetener after Brazil. White sugar for October delivery on the NYSE Liffe exchange in London was $19.50 a tonne more expensive than December-delivered sweetener by 11.53 a.m. in London, data on Bloomberg show. That compares with a premium of $1450 a tonne a month ago.
