Maharashtra’s sugar industry wants removal of restrictions on sugar, making it free from all kinds of controls. Officials from the industry on Thursday met the members of the expert committee on sugar, headed by the Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council Chairman, C Rangarajan. The government of Maharashtra has also sought the continuation of Fair Remunerative Price (FRP), wanting this to be linked to market prices. The sugar sector continues to be controlled by the government.

The expert committee has been touring the sugar producing states seeking views of the industry on decontrol of sugar.
