Crushing operations for the current 2015-16 SS have been started in late October and early November in a few parts of the country. As on 15th November, 2015, 175 mills have started crushing as against 155 in 2014-15 SS same time. Till 15th November, 2015, sugar mills have produced 7.61 lac tons of sugar, as against 5.74 lac tons produced last year upto the corresponding period.
In Maharashtra, 114 sugar mills were in operation and produced 4.31 lac tons as on 15th November, 2015. In 2014, 97 sugar mills were in operation as on 15th November and they produced 3.10 lac tons.
In Karnataka, there were 30 sugar mills in operation as on 15th November, 2015 as against 25 sugar mills which operated last year on the corresponding date. As on 15th November 2015, sugar production in the State was 1.60 lac tons, which is almost similar to the production of last season on 15th November, 2014.
16 out of 17 sugar mills in Gujarat have started crushing operations in the month of October 2015 itself and these mills have produced 1.10 lac tons of sugar till 15th November, 2015. Last year, same number of mills were in operation in the State and had produced 0.78 lac tons of sugar till 15th November, 2014.
In case of Tamil Nadu, 6 sugar mills were in operation as on 15th November, 2015 and sugar production was 0.40 lac tons, as compared to 0.12 lac tons produced by 6 mills upto 15th November, 2014.
Two mills in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana started their crushing in early November 2015 and have produced 5000 tons of sugar till 15th November, 2015. Last year 6 sugar mills were in operation and had produced 12000 tons of sugar upto 15th November 2014.
As per reports submitted by sugar factories to Government of India, sugar mills have exported about 0.80 lac tons of sugar in the month of October, 2015. However, there are reports that sugar mills have already made contracts for export of around 2 to 3 lac tons in the month of November, 2015.
